Great news from AXA: Hitting that Preferred offer is going to be easier in 2016. Improvements in key areas that impact large cases and flow business alike were launched earlier this month, including Family History of cancer, treated hypertension and driving record. Also included in this update is a much clearer definition of how AXA handles tobacco usage and positive nicotine tests. See below for the details from AXA.


AXA Releases Improved Guidelines for MVR, BP, Family History

Family History:

  • Preferred Elite is now available if no deaths from coronary artery disease (CAD), cerebrovascular disease (CVD), or cancer (CA) for parent or sibling under age 60.
  • Preferred NT is now available if death of parent or sibling is due to cancer other than breast, melanoma, colorectal, ovarian, or prostate.

Blood Pressure:

  • Treatment in Proposed Insureds younger than Issue Age 70: Preferred Elite is now available if the blood pressure readings are 125/80 or better.

Tobacco Use:

  • Whenever a proposed insured tests positive for nicotine (cotinine), regardless of source, at the 0.25 MCG/ML lever or higher, tobacco user rates will be charged.
  • Tobacco rates will also be charged if the proposed insured used cigarettes, e-Cigarettes or hookah within the last 12 months.

Driving Record:

  • Under Age 70:
    • Preferred Elite NT: No more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years. No license suspension in the past 5 years.
    • Preferred NT & Preferred Plus NT: No more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years. No license suspension in the past 5 years.
    • Standard Plus NT & Preferred TU: No more than 3 moving violations in the past 3 years. No license suspension in the past 3 years.
  • Over Age 70:
    • Preferred Elite NT: No more than 1 moving violation in the past 3 years. No license suspension in the past 5 years.
    • Preferred NT & Preferred Plus NT: No more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years. No license suspension in the past 5 years.
    • Standard Plus NT & Preferred TU: No more than 3 moving violations in the past 3 years. No license suspension in the past 3 years.
